Answers to common questions about using Round Update.
Getting started
No. You can create a round, keep score, and watch rounds without ever joining. Signing in is optional and uses a one-time email code (no password) — it just saves your rounds to your account so you can pick them up on any device.
Yes. If you're signed in, open Account settings to set a display name and upload a photo. They show up where you're identified as a player in a round, and they're optional — you can change or remove them anytime.
Age and parental approval
You must be at least 13 to create an account, create a round, enter scores, or post. To create a round without an account you must be 18 or older — if you're under 18, you can still watch and play in rounds other people set up, and you can create your own by making an account so a parent or guardian can approve it. Round Update isn't for children under 13, and we ask for your date of birth only to check this.
When someone under 18 creates an account, we ask for a parent or guardian's email and send them a link to review our Terms and Privacy Policy and approve the account. Until a parent approves, the teen can sign in and look around but can't create rounds, enter scores, or post. A parent can withdraw approval at any time — which closes the account — or ask to see, correct, or delete their teen's information, by emailing info@roundupdate.com.
Plans and billing
Round Update is free to use — setting up rounds, keeping score, and watching cost nothing. Free accounts can create up to 5 rounds. Round Update Premium lifts that to unlimited rounds and removes ads, for $5/month or $50/year (the yearly plan is about two months free). You can upgrade from your account, and everything stays free for the people who watch or play in your rounds.
Open your account and choose Manage subscription — it opens our secure billing portal, run by Stripe. You can cancel anytime; if you do, you keep Premium through the end of the period you have already paid for, then your account returns to the free plan. Payments are handled by Stripe, and we never see or store your full card number.

Scoring and formats
Yes. One person can set up the round and enter everyone's scores from a single device. When other players open the round on their own phones, they pick which player they are so their updates and photos post under the right name.
Stroke play (gross, or net using handicaps), match play, and skins. Turn skins on and the app tracks carryovers, who won each skin, and who owes whom at the end — as a count of skins, with no dollar value involved.
Yes. You can add a player mid-round from the round editor, and they'll be scored from the hole they joined on. Skins and net scoring adjust so a latecomer isn't credited for holes they didn't play.
No. Handicaps are numbers you enter yourself, used only for casual net scoring inside the app. Round Update isn't affiliated with the USGA, GHIN, or the World Handicap System, and the figures here aren't an official handicap index.
No. Round Update doesn't deal in money at all — skins are tracked only as a count of holes won, with no dollar value in the app. It never collects, holds, or pays out money. Anything you settle in real life is strictly between the players, and it's up to you to make sure any betting is legal where you play.
Privacy and your data
No. Round Update doesn't collect or share your device's location. (Any weather shown for a round is based on the golf course, not on where you are.)
If you created a round, you can cancel it from the round editor, which removes it for everyone. If you're signed in, you can delete your account from Account settings — that deletes the rounds you created and unlinks any rounds you only joined. A parent or guardian can also request closure of a teen's account by emailing info@roundupdate.com. See our Privacy Policy for details.
About Round Update
No. Round Update is a golf scoring app. The Instagram account (@round_update) posts real photos and clips from rounds played in the app, but it isn't where a round is started or watched — that happens at app.roundupdate.com
